South West Age Group's & Daphne Leeworthy Cup 2013

The Bristol Hawks girls travelled to Melksham on Sunday 22nd September to take part in the Regional Age Group Championships and the Daphne Leeworthy Cup.
The morning featured the regions top young gymnasts with the first 4 girls plus one reserve in each section going on to represent the region at the National Championships.
In the 9 year old section [Level 4]
Elize Waits led our team placing 2nd overall; 2nd on bars and winning the Gold for her very precise beam routine which she shared with Port Regis star Sasha King [the overall champion]. It’s great to see Elize’s hard work in the gym paying off with a very consistent performance through-out.
Emily Edge placed 3rd overall and won herself five medals in total [3rd on every apparatus]. Her flowing style gives her routines the artistic flair that the judges like which bodes well for the future.
Alice Wintle was delighted to win the last spot on the team to the National finals. She also picked up two Silver medals, one for her dynamic vault and the other for her delightful floor routine where her bubbly personality shines out.
Teagan Andrews took the 5th place and goes as reserve to Nationals this time. She was outstanding on the bars where her handstand into two giant circles earned her the Gold medal and gained her the top score of the morning on this apparatus.
In the 10 year old section [Level 3]
Izzy Davis was the clear Champion winning by over a mark and also taking the Trophy for the South West Combined Level 3 [she won the compulsory section earlier in the year]. Izzy’s work continues to improve and she picked up two more Gold’s, one for her well flighted vault and the other for a beam routine that was packed with difficulty and had good amplitude. She will lead the SW team at the National finals in November.
Gabby Wild was also reserve to the National Finals, placing 5th= overall. She shone on floor where she won a Silver medal for her routine which had nice high tumbles and a dynamic style.)
In the afternoon we had Rowena Needham Paisley Boyce and Claudia Fragapane in the Daphne Leeworthy Cup. This is the South West Championships that has an open age group and is used to select the SW regional teams and squads.
Great Britain Senior Squad member Claudia was the run away Champion winning by over 5 1/2 marks. Remarkably Rowena [12 years] was her nearest rival winning the Silver medal. Paisley placed 12th AA from a field of 25.
All the girls performed well with Claudia making a clean sweep of all the Gold apparatus medals and Rowena picking up Silver medals on both Bars and Floor. Highlights included Claudia’s well landed Double Arabian and Double Straight on floor and her successful new elements on both bars and beam. Rowena main target for this competition was also met. She successfully completed her new bar routine which included a release and catch ā€˜D’ element for this first time, she also included new elements in her beam routine. Paisley was 4th on the beam where she performed a steady routine.
It was a highly successful day for all the Bristol Hawks gymnasts with 24 medals, 2 Championship Trophies, and more importantly some excellent work to build on for the future.
