Great Britain International gymnast Claudia Fragapane was selected to compete for the England Team at the World School Games held in Brasillia from November 25th – December 5th. This prestigious multi sport event with opening and closing ceremonies and an educational side with a compulsory ‘Cultural’ day provided a great training ground for young competitors from all sports. The travelling, 2 flights, of first 3 hours and an over night stay in Portugal then a 10 hour flight into Brasillial [the capital of Brazil] plus all the rigours of training and competing in a hot humid climate and coping with the unexpected made this both an experience never to be forgotten and also a fantastic opportunity especially for any gymnast aiming for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Claudia made the most of this opportunity by scoring a personal best overall score 54.45 and helping the England Team to take the Bronze medals behind strong teams from Russia and hosts Brazil. In the individual All Around standing she was 7th and she was the only English gymnast to make all four apparatus finals. A full report will be available soon in our ‘Reports’ section. Meanwhile here is a photo of Claudia with her team trophy.
