What a fantastic end to the year for all the Bristol Hawks West Country League Teams. Our teams all took part in the top section of the league ‘The Premiership’ and have competed exceptionally well through out the year. The icing on the cake came at the finals held at Wiltshire School of Gymnastics on the weekend of 23rd/24th of November where ALL our teams became the overall CHAMPIONS of their respective sections.
Our young ‘A’ League team worked well together and produced some outstanding work to win double gold [winning on the day and for the year].They took the first 4 individual AA placings [1st Roxanne, 2nd Becky,3rd Mayalee & 4th Erin].The team scored highest on 3 out of the 4 apparatus. Indvidually Roxanne won bars with a very precise routine, Mayalee won beam with a confident performance and Erin won floor with exquisite dance. Dolshayea showed off her floor well for 2nd place and also was 3rd on vault; Izzy improved both her free cartwheel and upstart and Chiara showed great improvement in both the flight and shape of her handspring flatback vault. So many positives punctuating the culmination of a great year of progress for this talented group who bounce off each other creating an atmosphere of friendly competition that lifts the whole team.

Not to be outdone the ‘B’ League team won by over 10 marks on the day also winning double gold. They too placed first as a team in 3/4 apparatus and took the first 4 individual AA placings [1st Gabby who has stepped up a level since Rushmoor, 2nd Elize, 3rd Alice & 4th Ellouise who can always be relied on to produce a good steady performance]. On the individual apparatus Alice won bars [she’s gaining in confidence on this apparatus], Elize, who thoroughly deserves all the success she has had this year – a result of her outstanding work rate, won beam and Gabby won floor with her dynamic tumbling. Other outstanding performances came from Teagan on bars, hitting her handstands, Sophie on vault with her flying Tsukahara and Caitlin’s new full twist on floor.
It was no surprise that our ‘C’ League team also took the top honours. We have two GB internationals as team members and the two younger members of the team have since been selected to GB National Squad. It may seem that these girls don’t need to compete in the WCL but it is extremely valuable to be able to compete new elements or comeback from injury slowly or learn how to compete in a team or have the luxury of competing with less pressure than a major event etc. For all these great opportunities and more we need to thank Shirley Clements and her team who continue to run a competition that suits a wide range of ages and abilities and enables clubs to develop their teams. So our team of Amy, Claudia, Paisley, Rowena & Izzy rounded off a great weekend by becoming double gold champions to make it a clean sweep for Bristol Hawks.
A GREAT TEAM EFFORT WELL DONE EVERYONE!!!
