The Great Britain Artistic Gymnastic Teams achieved record breaking results at the European championships held in Sofia Bulgaria during May 2014. It confirmed what we in GB already knew that GB gymnastics is continuing to rise on the world gymnastic scene and with so much potential on show the future looks bright.
Bristol Hawks were proud to be a part of the teams with Claudia Fragapane in her first ever European’s selected as the youngest member of the Women’s Senior Team; Rory Weavers selected as part of the GB coaching team and James May selected by the European Gymnastics Union to head up the judging on High Bar.
Claudia made an outstanding contribution helping our Women’s Senior Team secure the historic Silver medal over Russia in Bronze with the favourites Romania taking the Gold. Claudia coped well with the pressure of high level competition where 3 gymnasts are put up on each apparatus and all three scores count towards the team total. On vault she landed her highly rated double twisting yurchenko and on floor she repeated the fantastic routine of the qualifiers to score a massive 14.766 uplifting the team. Watch her Team Final routine here:
Claudia also qualified for two Apparatus Finals a fantastic achievement – She placed 6th on Vault and 8th on Floor. Here she is with her brilliant Team mates:
