Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2014

Bristol Hawks gymnast Claudia Fragapane has been selected to represent England at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Claudia has had a brilliant start to the year. She is the current English Vault Champion, was third All Around at both the English and the British Championships and won team silver at the recent European Championships where she also made both the Vault and Floor finals a great achievement at her first major championship.
Claudia will be the youngest member of the England Women’s Artistic Team which is led by European Champion and double Commonwealth Games medallist Rebecca Downie and includes fellow European Silver Medalists Ruby Harrold and Hannah Whelan and British vault champion Kelly Simm.
Bristol Hawks has numerous Commonwealth Games Connections:
Two previous gymnasts from the club have competed at the Commonwealth Games: James May was a member of the England Team at the 1990 games in Auckland where he won 5 Commonwealth Medals including Gold on Vault; Silver in Team & Rings & Bronze in AA & Pommels. James will also be head judge on both pommel horse and parallel bars at the Glasgow 2014 games. Rhian Pugh was a member of the Welsh Team at the 2006 Games in Melbourne helping the team to their best ever finish and qualifying for the bar final. Rhian will also be an official at the Glasgow 2014 games. She is an International brevet judge and part of Claudia’s coaching team. Helen Potter [Claudia’s coach] was also a coach at the 2006 Games in Melbourne. Elaine May [also part of Claudia’s coaching team & Bristol Hawks Management Team] was a judge at the 2002 Games in Manchester. Bristol Hawks coach Stephanie May [nee Micklam] was a member of the England Gymnastics Team at the 1986 Games in Edinburgh where she won Team Silver. Former Bristol Hawks Elite gymnast Bradley Burrowes is part of England’s weightlifting and powerlifting squad for Glasgow 2014 [his son also Bradley [5yrs] is a current very promising Bristol Hawks gymnast
