2013 British Championships

Having qualified for the British Championships at last years Elite Level 2 competition Rowena Needham travelled to Ipswich in March to take part in the Espoir [12/13years] competition. She successfully competed her new vault: Piked Tsukahara and was delighted to make the finals on this event. The reward for her placing was a trip to Liverpool to take part in the British Apparatus Finals. This is particularly exciting as the finals are held at the impressive ‘Echo Arena’ where the gymnasts get a chance to compete on a podium with a large audience and alongside the older finalists from both the Junior & Senior sections. The experience gained from doing so will stand her in good stead for when she competes at major events in the future. Rowena hit both her vaults to move up the rankings and place 7th in GB on this apparatus. She will have two more opportunities to compete in this age group ‘Espoir British’ as there will be another Espoir British held in Glasgow towards the end of the year. This is all part of the new system that is currently being developed by our new national coach Amanda Reddin.
