The British Championships in Olympic Year is a very exciting event to be a part of. With the fabulous Echo Arena Liverpool once again the venue, the gymnasts competed up on a podium [as they would at a major gymnastic event such as the Olympics or World Championships] this added to the atmosphere and made it a truly special experience.
Bristol Hawks qualified two gymnasts:
Lauren Gore who qualified at last years National Junior Challenge Cup and Great Britain National Squad Member Claudia Fragapane.
It was another highly successful weekend for the Bristol Hawks girls. The all around junior competition took place on the Friday with Claudia continuing her journey towards the Rio Olympics by once again moving up the rankings to place 5th in the overall event. Claudia was also awarded the Ace Trophy for achieving the highest score on the vault. She was third on floor wowing the crowd with her double straight back start and 5th on beam. Her ranking on these apparatus secured her place in three apparatus finals and she was reserve for the fourth.
Lauren, with no previous experience of an event this big was understandably nervous but managed to produce the competition of her life hitting all her routines including her longtime nemesis the beamshe was 23rd overall and easily acheived the qualifying score for next year.Well done Lauren.
Finals day was again a step up for Claudia with three finals to perform in. She worked well with her best apparatus being vault where she won the silver medal hitting two stunning vaults and showing the best difficulty of the day. She was more secure than in qualification on beam moving her ranking on this piece up to 4th place. On floor a small mistake on the last tumble dropped her to 5th on this apparatus.
Claudia was a star over the two days with no major errors in her work and a massive leap in difficulty level since last year she is definately one to watch for the future.Claudia with her awards
