The inaugural South West Intercounties Festival took place in Barnstable on 8/9th February 2014. This is the first regional gymnastic competition of the year and our boys team demonstrated their strength winning an extraordinary 20 medals between the 8 of them. The Festival runs over two days with floor and vault gymnasts competing on the first day and the six piece apparatus competitions taking place on the Sunday. Points are awarded for placings in all the sections over the two days and Bristol Hawks was delighted to be ranked as the third best club in the region especially as we did not enter any gymnasts for the floor and vault competitions on the first day.
In the U’8 Jay Franklin was the overall champion winning GOLD AA.
He produced quality work across the board to also gain GOLDS on both the Rings and High Bar. He added to his medal haul with SILVER on both pommels and floor and a BRONZE on the vault. Calum Honey was in BRONZE medal position overall and picked up a whole set of medals winning GOLD for his dynamic vault, SILVER on rings and adding another BRONZE on floor. Noah Ford also won a set of medals gaining GOLD for his stylish floor, SILVER on parallel bars and BRONZE on the rings.
The U’10 section was the most highly contested section with 28 boys from across the region taking part. All three of our boys finished in the top half with Haydn May our top scorer in 6th overall his clean swinging on parallel bars earning him a BRONZE medal. Peter Carter narrowly missed out on a medal lifting his somersaults high to achieve 4th on floor. Dylan Hunt was consistent across the six apparatus with his best performance coming on the High Bar.
The U’12 section Leo McAllister celebrated he return to competition with a 4th place in the all around adding a GOLD for his cleanly executed pommels and a SILVER on floor.
In the U’16 section Harry Andrews was consistent to place third overall collecting BRONZES for this plus both vault and floor. He also picked up a SILVER for his pommel horse. Most notable was his successful inclusion of his full twisting double back dismount on high bar.Watch the boys in action here!
