Women's Artistic World Gymnastic Championships

The British Team travelled half way across the world to take part in the 2014 World Gymnastics Championships in Nanning China. The journey was not in vain with historic successes and much to look forward to for the future – Bristol Hawks gymnast Claudia Fragapane once again proved herself to be a valuable team member and her qualification into three individual finals plus the team final was ground breaking for GB.

Team GB stared well in the qualifications with all the gymnasts making great contributions to the team total. The 4th place was historic for our team and the target of making the Team Final comfortably achieved.
Claudia made a fantastic contribution scoring for the team on all four apparatus gaining her a place in the All Around Final alongside Ruby [who also made Bar Final]. Claudia’s also qualified for both the Vault and Floor Finals taking her into three individual finals plus the Team Final, an incredible achievement for her first World Championships. Becky [European Bar Champion] also made the Bar Final making this the British Women’s most successful qualification ever!
Claudia pushed the boundaries in the Individual All Around Final, particularly pleasing was her 14.166 scored on beam, an apparatus she has made great progress on this year. An incredible 56.098 and a top ten placing in the World was her reward for outstanding work. Ruby was not far behind placing 11th 55.615.
Flying higher than ever on Vault Finals day Claudia moved up in the rankings to place 5th= with European Vault Champion Giulia Steingruber. Becky placed 5th in the Bars Final with Ruby in 8th. Floor Final day, and although Claudia didn’t produce her best floor of the Championships [that she produced for the Team Final: 14.533] she proved, as if there were any doubt, that she is a gutsy and tenacious performer able to face adversity with determination and a smile. GREAT WORK, GREAT CHAMPIONSHIPS, GREAT GYMNAST – Come on GREAT BRITAIN still we rise!
