Medals Galore for Bristol Hawks!

Medals for both our Womens & Mens Artistic gymnasts on this very busy but highly successful weekend [May14th/15th 2011].Harry Andrews & Sam Haberfield travelled to Birmingham on Saturday as part of the South West’s regional team to the Men’s NDP National finals. Sam competed in the SW Level 1 team & they took the Bronze medals. A little nervous in his first National finals Sam still made a valuble contribution to the team score counting on 6 apparatus. Harry competed in the SW Level 4 team that won the Gold medals. Harry underlined the fantastic progress he has made this year by flying up the rankings from last year [when he was in 31st place] to place 15th this year.
Our girls teams competed on Sunday in Swansea in the first match of the year of the West Country League. This year is the first time we have had 4 teams two in the Premiership & two in Division 1.
All the teams worked well together with great results the reward. Our Premiership Teams both ‘A’ & ‘C’ won the Gold medals with our Division 1 ‘B’ team the Silver’s & Division 1 ‘A’ team taking the Bronze medals.

In the Div. 1 ‘A’ competition outstanding performances came from Ameeyna Porteus the first time she has been in our league team & she won beam; Chloe Reed who won bars & was 2nd in the individual overall standings and Lucy Kendall who was second on bars. Sophie Clements was our top scorer on floor & her vault was fantastic but flew just a bit too much to get a reward from the judges. Larissa Royal & Cameron Rodgers also in their first league team both counted scores for the team total.
Our ‘B’ league team were slightly depleated with Zoe Potter having sprained her ankle it meant all 4 gymnasts had to count for the team score so little room for error. Paisley Boyce was tidy on both bars & beam and was third on both these apparatus. Rowena Needham was first on both bars and floor & had new elements on all apparatus, she was also third in the individual overall standings. Susie Dobson increased her overall score from last year & stuck her flick on beam. Robyn Lacey moved up a league from last year and was steady on beam for 4th place. Zoe supported the team well as they took the silver medals.
Our Prem. ‘A’ girls also had some outstanding individual scores with Ellouise Challenger winning the overall individual competition & Kayley Sharp second overall. Kayley also won on the bars & Ellouise was third on both vault & beam. Isabel Davis, Ellie Clements, & Teagan Andrews all counted scores for the team and all the girls did brilliantly winning gold in their first time competing in the West Country League.
In Premiership ‘C’ Claudia Fragapane won the individual overall with Holly Downey third top scorer.Claudia also won on both vault & beam and was third on bars. Holly won floor & was second on beam. Amy Sharp [who is only in light training at the moment] was second on bars & third on beam. Our newcommer, Bristol University student, Kathryn Heathcote proved what an asset she is to our team helping to secure the gold medals [she also judges & coaches for Bristol Hawks] and achieving third place on floor.
