Our teams travelled to the Forest of Dean to take part in the second match of the year of the West Country League. With great results from the first match we had high expectations and were delighted when the girls hard work in training paid off with some lovely routines and lots of new work on show.
Our ‘A’ & ‘B’ league teams both won their division & our ‘C’ league team were second in theirs.
Our young Premiership ‘A’ team put in a very poised performance to secure gold. In the individual standings Kayley Sharp was first with an outstanding bars where she also took first place;Isabel Davis was the top scorer on beam and this secured her second place in the individual AA. Ellouise Challenger competed her straight back somi for the first time and won floor with style. Grace Cruickshank was competing for the first time as part of the Bristol Hawks league team and made a great start with a scoring routine for the team on bars. Cameron Rodgers posted good scores for the team on both Vault & Floor. Teagan Andrews had a strong AA performance scoring for the team on 3/4 apparatus. Our reserve Ameeyna Porteus also got a chance to compete [without her scores counting for the team]. She did well successfully performing a front somi in her floor routine for the first time.
Our ‘B’ team pulled together to win the gold medals. The team included newcommer to this level & birthday girl ~ Lucy Kendall. Lucy successfully incorporated a number of new elements into her routines and performed a completely new floor routine she has even more new elements planned for the finals. Zoe Potter’s contribution was key to the team success, anchoring beam with a difficult routine that proved to be the top score of the day. Paisley Boyce gave a good AA performance but was a little disappointed with a fall on her usually secure beam routine. Robyn Lacey smiled through her floor routine to score equal top on this apparatus with her team mate Rowena Needham. Rowena herself was the highest scorer in the overall individual event and along with floor was also top scorer on the bars.
Our ‘C’ team won the silver medals with pleasing performances from all the girls that showed potential for the future. Great Britain Squad member Claudia Fragapane was the top individual on the day and was also top scorer on both beam & floor. She successfully competed her new Jaeger somi on the bars. You couldn’t have asked for better from Holly Downey who went 4/4 in her routines and will now up her difficulty for her next competitions. Lauren Gore successfully completed her major target for the day sticking her new combination on the beam. Kathryn Heathcote, back at university for the Autumn term, pulled out a strong performance scoring for the team on floor and has more to come for her next target ~ the Rushmoor Rosebowl.
A great day with promise for the future ~ Well Done Everyone
