Following his outstanding performance at the NDP National finals last year, where he placed 6th in the country at Elite Level 1 & placed 1st on both pommels & PPP, Bristol Hawks Gymnast Jay Franklin was selected for Great Britain National Squad.
9 year old Jay has so far enjoyed 5 squad camps this year all held at the headquarters of British Gymnastics: Lilleshall National Sports Centre in Shropshire. He will attend the last squad of this years series at the end of September. As part of Bristol Hawks Coach Development programme Jay has been accompanied at the squads by Bristol Hawks coach Steve Higgins. Steve has continued to develop his knowledge and experience not only in Men’s Artistic Gymnastics, where this year he passed his Level 3 qualification, but also in the relatively new branch of the sport ‘Free G’ where he holds a Level 2 qualification. Like all of the Bristol Hawks family Steve is multi-talented – He plays a role in developing our competitive boys squad and is also a qualified Mens Artistic Gymnastics judge. In addition to his competitive squad commitments he also coaches our Award Scheme classes, our School classes and can often be found manning reception.
We are very proud of both Jay and Steve who have both thrived in their first year of experiencing GB National Squad. They have both had a great time and learnt a lot. Well done guys.
