GB v Netherlands Senior International

This friendly international competition was held at Lilleshall National Sports Centre on 26/27th April 2014 and served as the last trial before selections are made for the Great Britain Team to the European Championships.

Great Britain topped the Netherlands comfortably, 164.75-156.250. Britain had the top total on every event, with a high of 43.800 on vault. The competition featured a 5-3-3 format [Five gymnasts in the team with 3 to go up on each apparatus and all 3 scores to count towards the team total].

2012 Olympian and current British champion Rebecca Tunney competed two events only, earning 14.550 on vault and top scoring on the bars with 14.500 to help lead Britain to first.

Bristol Hawks gymnast Claudia Fragapane also had a strong competition showing the selectors that she could be a valuable team member and contender for medals at the upcoming European championships. She was top scorer on the floor with an impressive 14.1 despite stepping out of bounds on her third tumble [0.3 deduction]. On the vault she scored 14.600 for her double-twisting Yurchenko and 14.300 for a layout Podkopayeva, earning a 14.450 average. She also performed for the team on bars where she scored 13.45.

In the apparatus finals the next day Claudia took part in both Floor and Vault and was the top scoring Senior on both events taking the Gold on Floor and the Silver on Vault behind Junior GB star Ellie Downie. We are all very proud of you Claudia!

We are also very proud of Bristol Hawks Team Coach Rory Weavers who was selected as one of the Great Britain Coaches for this International Match. This is the first, we believe, of many such selections and confirmation of the high regard British Gymnastics has for Rory.
