Great Britain’s Men’s & Women’s Artistic Gymnastic Teams consolidated GB’s position as a top nation in the gymnastics world by taking the team Silver Medals behind Russia at the European Championships held in Bern Switzerland. Russia & Great Britain were head and shoulders above the rest of the European nations and the battle for the top spot will no doubt be hotly contested for many years to come.
Our Women’s Team started off brilliantly qualifying in first place taking advantage of a faltering Russia team. Our team included Bristol Hawks gymnast Claudia Fragapane who once again put in a valuable performance for the team especially on floor where she qualified first for the apparatus finals with a fabulous 15.00 score. Claudia also put in a steady performance to also qualify for the Vault final.
In the battle of the Team Finals Claudia repeated her successes for the team and although the British team fought hard Russia rallied to prevail on this occasion. In the apparatus finals Claudia placed 4th on Floor where she ran out of energy on the last tumble & 5th on vault [one place up from her European final last year].
