With the standards continuing to rise in British Gymnastics the most prestigious event in the National calendar would once again prove to be an exciting and high quality event. Held in the awe inspiring Echo Arena in Liverpool and with the British Gymnastics events team pulling out all the stops [flame’s smoke & lights etc.] the podium event gave the gymnasts the experience of a major international championships.
Bristol Hawks had representation in both the Men’s & Women’s events and it turned out to be a highly successful competition for our gymnasts.
Claudia Fragapane, never one to rest on her laurels, had upped her difficulty level quite considerably since last year. Her new floor routine went down well with both the audience and the judges alike earning her an awesome 14.9 the top score of the day on any apparatus. Despite not everything going to plan Claudia took the AA silver medal behind up and coming youngster Amy Tinkler who was consistant through out. Claudia was the only gymnast to qualify for all four of the apparatus finals held the next day and in typical fashion corrected errors from the day before to medal on every apparatus. She won her first British Title on the first apparatus of the day, the vault, where she beat off strong opposition from last years champion Kelly Simm. Claudia also took silver on floor and bronze on both bars and beam. A great showing and with more to come Claudia continues to impress.
With over 40 competitors in the Men’s U’16 event Harry Andrews put in a personal best performance placing 17th AA and producing an excellently performed Parallel Bars routine to place 9th on this event. This was a big step up from his rather nervous showing last year. With personal goals achieved Harry had much to celebrate this year and this was a great opportunity for him to build on for the future.
